Greetings my friends. I want to tell you a little story concerning our Lord Christ Jesus on the days leading up to his crucifixion on the cross at Golgotha. There are some amazing details that have largely gone unnoticed and perhaps after reading this story you may know even more than your own parents do, and perhaps your Priest or Pastor as well. This story involves the number of groups of threes that we see before, during, and after our Lord Christ Jesus is crucified. Let me now begin this very interesting story.
The story begins with our Lord Christ Jesus predicting his own death three times in (Luke 9:22, 9:44,18:31-33).
Christ Jesus says to Peter, “…before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.” (John 13:38)
Peter then denies Jesus three times. (John 18:17, 18:25, 18:27).
Our Lord Christ Jesus says to his disciples, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6)
In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus takes three disciples to pray: Peter, James and John. Jesus prays to his Father three times and finds Peter, James and John sleeping three times. (Matthew 26:36-46)
In Luke 23:22, Pontius Pilate says, "For the third time he demanded. 'Why? What crime has he committed? I have found no reason to sentence him to death. So I will have him flogged and then I will release him.'"
On the day of crucifixion three crosses stand on the hill, one to the left of Jesus’ cross and one to the right.
Three women, all named Mary, stand near the cross of our Lord Christ Jesus on the day of crucifixion: his mother Mary, his mother’s sister Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. (John 19:25).
There were three hours of darkness, from noon until three. (Luke 23:44).
The sign nailed to the cross above Christ Jesus’ head was written in three languages:
Greek, Hebrew and Latin. (Luke 23:38)
Christ Jesus was crucified on the third hour [Roman time]. (Mark 15:25)
Our Lord Christ Jesus died on the cross at three in the afternoon. (Mark 15:34)
Our Lord Christ Jesus was resurrected on the third day. (Luke 24:6-7)
Three women, all named Mary, visit the tomb of Jesus: Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and [Mary] Salome. (Mark 16:1)
Christ Jesus appears three times after the resurrection to his disciples. (John 20:19, 20:26, 21:12)
Christ Jesus asks Peter three times if Peter loves him. (John 21:15, 21:16, 21:17)
Christ Jesus’ earthly ministry lasted three years.
In the Holy Scriptures the number three represents the Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
